Hi Bill,
Just to let you know that the print link isn't working. Just sends to a blank page.
I guess i'll be puzzling later on :)
Hi Mark,
Thanks for telling me about the link problem.
All fixed now ...
Hi Bill
Lovely puzzle Bill...but once again, you succeeded...in cutting me down to SCYTHE!! I'm kicking myself...just didn't pick up on the 'YOU' start ...and continued to think that the WORD started with SC+U....
The level today was challenging...I didn't find many 'too easy' clues...I needed the few 'easier' ones that were there to get me going!!
Particularly liked
FUTONS, PSYCHE and ALFRESCO...these read very well and were nicely disguised anagrams
SPEAK OF THE DEVIL...lovely!
OBSTRUCTIONISTS....this OBSTRUCTED me for quite a while...and made me wonder how long it took you to come up with such a long anagram that read so well!
AIRBORNE was nice and whimsical
ISLANDER...another nice anagram...only noticing now...did you have more anagrams than usual Bill?
Liked the wordplay in ALTER EGO, BASSINET, UNEARNED and IGNORING.
Better go and TACKLE some of the real-world chores!
Thanks for a great puzzle Bill
Liz
Hi Bill,
Very challenging puzzle today but also very enjoyable. Took me quite a while to get going but once I got HANDICAP and LOUVRE I was unstoppable. That is until i got to OBSTRUCTIONISTS. Ouch! that was a toughy.
My favourites were ALFRESCO and SCYTHE oh and definitely SPEAK OF THE DEVIL. Well done.
Mark
Hi Bill,
another nearly but not quite, and very enjoyable nonetheless.
Fell down on DELETE, FUTONS and BASSINET ( I was thinking BASS at one time and NET at another but really had I COT in my mind).
Best for me was SCYTHE, short and sweet.
Liked AIRBORNE( very clever) and AIR FORCE.
Took me a while to get OBSTRUCTIONISTS.
Good fun, well done
Tommy
Hi Bill, Mark and Tommy
Interesting to see that both Mark and Tommy had SCYTHE as their favourite...and that was the one that cut me off from a tantara...a great clue that eluded me!
Liz
Hi Liz,
Thanks for "having a go"! I hope you only missed the one answer, namely SCYTHE.
OBSTRUCTIONISTS was a real challenge for me. I couldn't come up with anything I liked as a clue without resorting to an anagram, and it did take a long time to put together a combination of words that weren't too, too obvious.
I might have been a tad heavy on the anagrams this week. I tend to use them as a last resort, quite frankly, unless there is a particularly appealing rearragement of the letters that jumps out at me.
I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzle, Liz. I do seem to be having a hard time producing a crossword that everyone can solve completely though! A lesson to be learned ...
Hi Mark,
I'm sorry about the printing problem last night, but glad to see you came back to give the puzzle a go!
Re OBSTRUCTIONISTS
I like to "signal" my anagrams, and almost always do so, but "gives" was a little too subtle maybe. That one might not have been fair, to be honest.
I'm glad you liked SCYTHE. I do try hard to make 'em short and sweet, but it's tough, as you well know!
Thanks again!
Hi Tommy,
Darn it ... I was hoping this one would have suited the Lockerman! I will try harder next week ...
As I said to Mark, OBSTRUCTIONISTS was possibly a little unfair in retrospect. I am glad you liked SCYTHE though.
Off to comment on your Sunday offering, Tommy, now that I am home from a long, long day ...
Liz,
I am heartened by the fact that you got within one of a tantara. Next time, I promise ...
