Today's is the third WEB puzzle of the month, so it has a difficulty rating of 3/5. I only threw in one "Noel-ish" clue given the season, and saved the rest for the Christmas WEB Crossword that I will post on the 25th. Remember, there are no obscure words used in the answers, so don't give up!

And a reminder ... the Sunday slot is still open for anyone who wants to post his or her own, original crossword. Just contact me and I will help you with the mechanics of compiling and posting.

Hi Bill,

A toughy today. Had two to get and just gave up. The first being RABBLE ROUSERS and the second being ADVENTURSOME. The first has been added to my vocabulary and the second just would not come to light.

THEOLOGY: Great clue. A classic.

CLIMATE CHANGE: Nice easy start and very topical!

BRIM: Clue of the day. Love the deletion clues.

AUCTIONEER: A tough anagram with the NIECE because it has such a soft sound compared to the answer. My odd logic.

ALLEGIANCE: I was looking for the anagram in IAN TO CLARE until I stopped over looking the for example reference. Nice and tough.

ARCHIVE: I had ARC for bow and I've but the H for hour was new one for me....I think.

PILLOW CASE:Fantastic. Love the POW part.

JULY: Got answer straight away but had to look at your explanation.

Overall a very enjoyable EDITION of SunWEB. Looking forward to the Christmas one. Will it have a rating?

Thanks Bill!!
All the best,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for having a bash at the puzzle today, and taking the time to give such comprehensive feedback. I really appreciate it.

I'm sorry you didn't finish, especially as RABBLE-ROUSERS was new to you. One of the "design rules" of a WEB crossword is that the answers all have to be commonly used, with nothing like a Crosaire "obscure" answer. One concern I always have is that I might mistakenly introduce a phrase used in America and not in Ireland. Maybe that explains the RABBLE ROUSERS miss. If so, I apologize.

Re BRIM
I thought you might like the scientific bent of the clue!

Re AUCTIONEER
I was quite proud of myself, finding a way to disguise the "re-sort" signalling the anagram, using it as a "resort" (holiday spot). I find it hard not to make the anagrams obvious!

Re ALLEGIANCE
I rarely include an anagram without some sort of an indication, so I tried not to have you rearranging "Ian to Clare", really I did! :)

Re ARCHIVE
I use the M(minute) and S(second) abbreviation almost every day in the Blog when I give my solving time! Thank goodness I don't have to to use H(hour) :)

Thanks again, Mark, and better luck next time. The Christmas special puzzle is cued up already, and I rated it at a middle-of-the-road 3/5. I am working up a 4/5 for next Sunday to round out the month, then it's back to 1/5 for the beginning of January.

PS: be careful about using SunWEB for my crosswords ... I think Tommy has that name copyrighted!
